About Me

Welcome to my blog! My name is Rachel and I am a Kindergarten Teacher in Montgomery County.

What is this blog about? Anything and everything education! My thoughts, opinions, research, and experiences inside (and sometimes outside of) the school building. Educator and student names have been changed in all posts.

Educational History: I grew up thinking I wanted to be a School Counselor or School Psychologist.. I still may one day. Knowing how the brain worked and why we do the things we do really intrigued me. It wasn't until my first year of college (and a couple failed psychology courses) that I realized it isn't that easy... I then changed my major to Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology. The education program was really fun and I learned a lot about teaching. Throughout college, we had school placements where we could use what we were learning and the guidance of our mentors to teach actual children. I know, right?!

Fast forward to my first year of teaching... I was hired the week before preservice at a fantastic school for a second grade position! I had spent half my senior year of college in a second grade placement so I thought I was ready for anything. Turns out, you can never be prepared enough for your first year of teaching! After three years teaching second grade (I loved it btw), I wanted a change. There was an opening in my school building for a Kindergarten position so I took the appropriate Praxis tests to become certified in Early Childhood Education, then moved two floors down! Currently, this is my third year teaching Kindergarten. I love it, too! I miss the bigger kiddos sometimes but both my experiences have been great! A big shoutout to my school community and coworkers who have made my six years AMAZING!
